Harvest Trails update

Took my road bike down there to scope things out today and ended up staying 4 hours. There were leaves everywhere, covering everything and getting pretty dense in spots. Stumbled upon a Rake and a shovel, so I managed to get a bunch of crap cleared and drainages dialed back in. Got a before and after pic and a panaroma at the end of the day. Awesome day, and they're only getting longer!
All the moss on the jumps looked like it was glowing today, can see it pop in the shitty iphone quik-pan job. Beautiful day tho, even with the rain later on. Traces of Lashun are the only other signs of recent activity in the form of sketchy ass lips, berms and milwaukee cans littered about. I love days like this. Lets do it again soon.

Gossip Gossip Gossip

Yeti put out its official team roster for 2010 and there was a sentance that stood out from all the rest. "...Blenkinsop will race under a different sponsor for 2010". The initial Rumors are he will join his Kiwi cadet Justin Leov on Trek World Racing ( makes sense, his manager also manages TWR).
Second up we got Nathan "The Huge Aussie" Rennie. Rumor has it he will not be racing the UCI series next year. He will most likely spend more time riding/ racing down under, driving rally cars and fighting 'round the world with chum bucket pal, Russell Crowe.

Thats it for now, but as we get closer to the new year we will get down to more juicy stories as they come out.. and I dont actually know if Nafan is buds with Rusell Crowe. I sure hope not, that guy seems like such a douchebag.

Filming Trip

Headin to Windells at Mt. Hood tomarrow with Chris, Erik and Ian. Should be super sweeeet! cant wait to ride the Foampit and spend the whole day shooting.
Coming up this weekend is the Sideflight Championship in SoCal, "The MotoWhip World Championships" as it will most likely be known as. Saw this pretty cool footage on vitalmtb.com

Sideflight Champs Practice Blasting - More Mountain Bike Videos

...track. A new contraversial shaped pump track is generating gratuitous amounts of flow and lines.... hmmm we need a new pumptrack around here

Blackrock edit!

Blackrock from Tom Lyons Media on Vimeo.

Went back to 2007 for this one. I wanted to do an edit for the Highland S'ender contest and new exactly what footage to use, found a sweet song and spent a whole day workin towards something that would give out a really cool, mellow attitude that flowed and made you wanna go session some jumps with a couple friends.
Its being uploaded to Vital as I type... first video contest entered, check!

Mad stills

I went through a bunch of pictures since ive gotten cs4, some are up on Flickr. Il have some more soon, as well as a new edit or two.
I saw this pretty sweet short movie shot on a 7d over at Defgrip.

Hecq Vs Exillion - Spheres Of Fury from Tim.Chris.Film on Vimeo. The color tones are great, really gives it a distinct look that I think is pretty dialed! if you havent heard of Defgrip through Liquid-dirt, thrash or whoever yet, you'd better check it out now. Tons of rad photo/ video stuff as well as some of the best bmx media out there.

whats next?

Luke and I's seggy from "What's Next?" from wink grant on Vimeo. From the look of it, inverts and dumped 3's haha but seriously folks... That is the sweetest idea for an intro EVER, both those guys kill it but Wink's style totally makes the edit what it is.

You can check out the whole movie at HERE. I had to watch it in segments so I didnt succumb to synth-pop overload, but it was worth it!

Deep South from Tom Lyons Productions on Vimeo. Shot this over the weekend, this trail is gonna be sick in the slop this winter! Theres a couple things I need to fix, due to some tech difficulties, the new one will be up on my vimeo next week..

On a side note, my wrist is officially healed. Holy smokes I never thought riding in the fall could be any better, but its been so nice on the trails this last week!

This is my kind of euro steez

AWOL - The Teaser from wagenwerks on Vimeo. This is the sickest edit I think ive ever seen. and it dosent even have bikes, but there are leather wheel covers and some really pretty cars.

The Big Show!

I was blessed with a clear signal and fully operating freecaster.tv early today to view the very last round of the UCI DH series. It did not diapoint! With the top three contenders each fighting for their chance at the overall series, it was a win for Sam Hill ho made it look so effortless and very fast. The big overall 2009 ranking ladies and gentleman..
first Sam Hill
2 Steve Peat
3 Greg Minaar
4 Gee Atherton
5 Mick Freakin Hannah
6 Justin Leov
7 Sam Blenkinsop
8 Brendan Fairclough
9 Aaron USA Gwinn!!!
10 Fabien Barel
With Duncan Riffle pullin in 20th overall, 2 americans in the top 20, thats what I like to see!!

The race results are

first Sam Hill
2 Sam Blenkinsop
3 Gregg Minaar
4 Aaron Gwin!!
5 Brendan Fairclough

7 Steve Peat,
9 Luke Strobel

How about them Americans?
Aaron Gwinn fourth in Austria and reppin the NW Luke Strobel in 9th! (Luke Qualified 10th)

Your new world champ is crowned..

Bout time Stevie!! I believe I can honestly say that for the whole mtb community around the world. Congratulations buddy!!! You are definately he peoples champion, and after all these years of watching you reign over the world cup circuit I cant even imagine how it must feel to have that title under your belt!! I swear Rob Warner was so excited he forgot to say "Look at the time!" haha
The crawfish classic was a no-go last weekend but still managed to have a blast out in the wet, wet forest. Got some of the best footage ever, should have some up here pretty quick! for now, back to editing. Way to go Steve Peat! you the man!!

world/541 championships

Thats right, not only is the UCI World Championships this fri/(Sun if you are attending in person in Canberra, Aussieland. Il be watchin from the comfort of the couch rooting on the two big threats from USA, im seein Looch on the podium for sure! Sick Mick's still got the skills an fitness, a track pretty much designed for his style and in his homeland, and the determination to take that number one spot. But, thats just like, my opinion man...After champs is wrapped up a group of folks is gathering at a certain trail for a certain race. Not to brag, but its kind of a big deal. haha. Hollis and I will be attending, gettin down on some more shootin. This is the funnest race of the year by a long shot! Got third place last year so Pretty bummed to be hurt but its still gonaa be a lot of fun filming, ive been wanting to do this for so many years :)

Heres a few pics I just came across from some pretty sweet and scary lookin trails in CO. Oh, and by scary I mean steep, super loose 'dirt' and lots of rocks. I can definately see why so many fast folks are comin outta there!

Great sucess!

Got the first of many Zipline Shots in the bag today! Hollis and I (mainly Hollis) spent a good chunk of the day setting up and dialing in the zipline before getting to shoot some awesome riding by lots of fast boys around Eugene. Heres a teaser for now.

Just saw that Sterling Lawrence has some new shots up from a shoot at Silver Star, BC. Check out the Anthill Productions website for the pics and news on their first film, "Follow Me". ( Anthill is made up of The Collective Crew, sans Jamie Hussein).

Fixie bike steez

I saw this clip on the evening news under the title of "Geek of the Week". Really? Im sorry but for a place that is so bicycle friendly and pro-cycling, thats a pretty shitty thing to poke fun at on the news. Anyone with half a brain would see the talent in these two chicks and tell the CO correspondents to cram it. Sorry, rocky mtn state but you just went down a few notches in my book.

Colorado update

Hello from CO! sorry bout the lack of updates but ive been visiting family in Longmont. Its been way too long since ive seen some of the fam, its a pretty rad vacation. Good food, great people, decent weather but beautiful scenery! got some pictures today out in the Rocky mtn National park, il get some up on here shortly!!

Big Willy Style

Aside from the really small turnout ( less than 30 racers, and only a handful of fans) it was soo much fun! The DH Coalition was in full effect, with Casey winning Cat 1 mens open with a time of 4.42. Chris Spicer got 5th with a 5.02 and Jared Tuska came in 6th with 5.04. Rhys pulled together another really good run this weekend, winning the jr ex. division with a time of 4.51 on the same course as the pros! Its pretty cool to see Rhys getting faster and faster with every race, makes me so proud and pumped to see him progress over the next year and prepare for running with the pros (he was only five seconds from the pro podium at Big Willy). The pro standings were Eric Loney (Project 529) first with a time of 4.25, Jared Hobbs (Fluidride)
and Jeremy Tufts (center cycle)
Kirk Linder won the Masters class with a stack up in the rocks, still pulled together a 5.13!

All in all it was super sweet, still workin on the footy but here are some sssweet pics Hollis nabbed on the second race runs.
He managed to get this shot of the elusive Huckasaurus Wrecks in its natural habitat, it even had an extra layer over its normal, mesh/ hard plastic exo-skeleton. Is this creature evolving? lets hope so.

Get jiggy with it

Willamette Ass

Its time again to head the the birthplace of chunder, and gnar, thats right ladies and gentlemen, Big Willy P. I am headin up in the A.M. with Hollis and Jen, Hollis is my helping hand on the media team this weekend. We even got a surprise in the works, should be up here next week. Takin my Canon too, so should have some good stills to pop up here!

I tagged along on a lil training ride down Eula and Hardesty yesterday with some of the Coalition dudes. It was so nice to get out in the woods, with some bikers and true NW weather. Noice and moist, good times!

Went down here the other day, miss these jumps so much right now.

Why do we do what we do?

I like seeing stuff like this because you never hear about this aspect of the 'extreme athlete', but, some parts are kinda hard to watch... in the end, its a great video and it opens eyes to everyone who watces it.

Why I cant wait to get back on my bike? I think Mat summed it up best.

Road to recovery

For how bad of a break, and just over two weeks old its feeling surprisingly good! still got a bit of a bruise, swellings all gone, the scar is clean and healing good too.
Got some sweet 'lifestyle' shots with Rhys the other day.

X games/ 6.0 HB

Hmm.. 720? almost. Backflip to 360? I think so. Travis is coined it the 'Cash Roll" not to be confused with the trick Daniel Dhers unveiled last week in cali.

I think that was Spinner who nailed that barspin to tailwhip 360. This is the generation of tricks that video games produced., seriously... hot damn.

By the way, sounded like Willamette was pretty small turnout but pretty fun. Rhys held together his first run and got the second fastest time of the whole Team! First place in jr x, easy. Jack got second place.
The Downhill Coalition team went up to The Pass again today and rode crawfish yesterday with Hollis, while I rode the couch pretty much all day.

Mt. St Anne

just watched the top ten on freecaster. Sam Hill took his first win of the year and Peaty pulled in 2.5 seconds behind for 2nd. The surprise of the day was Aaron Gwinn from So Cal held the hotseat from nearly all the top ten qualifiers, resulting in a solid 3rd only .3 sec off Peat. First american on the top 3 in... well before my time haha anyways it was unreal watching Blinky, Brendan, Fab and Kovarik among others try to best Aaron, and it took so many..

Theres a race at willamette Pass this weekend, and it seems like everyone is there but me. I opted for the couch thru the weekend to recover and get some editing done. Willamette will be really gnarly, with dust everywhere and braking bumps that would swallow you alive.. you can expect some injuries and people who have no sense of self preservation to do really well, im excited to see how Rhys does

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Great sucess!!Just feels like I've got a block of metal in my hand haha a little loopy, just scarfed down a sandwich and some sherbert.. Hollis is comin down in a half hour to get me but should be home within the hour. Thank you everyone for the support, couldn't have done it without you folks! -Tom
Well it's 5.30 and I'm still in pre-op, waiting to get Into surgery. The doctors surgery scheduled before me got started late and pushed me back a couple hours.. I'm tired, haven't had a single thing to eat or for pain all day so I'm pretty damn irritible haha. Should be brought back any minute now...

7/ 21/ 09

Just bout to head out to Riverbend for the procedure, and hand hurts bad and feels like a huge jumbled mess contained in a splint right now. Started moving my fingers yesterday but they have absolutely no strength and feels like someones stepping on my wrist when I move em. yesterday I only had to take some Profin in the am and a couple vicodin to help me snooze all night, but today they're all worn off and im pretty sure I fractured a rib in the tumble.
Took this yesterday of a nice raspberry on my side, il get another later today once the bruise sets in more :)
anywho, thanks for everyones concern and words of support! I really appreciate it all very much! Il post an update once its all said and done

Wrist Update

By 6 pm tomarrow i will have a plate and a few screws holding my radius together and in place, once they straighten it.
Not the best pic but heres a side view, you can see how the radius got slammed into the joint and broke. The doc said your wrist normally sits at about a 15 degree angle with your arm, mine was closer to 60 degrees and 1 1/2 in shorter. lets get this train headin down the road to recovery!! thanks for the support from everybody, I really appreciate it!

Sunday, July 19, 2009

If you had x-ray vision..

this is what you would see in my hand right now.
The Radius has definately seen better days.

I should've checked myself..

... because i wrecked myself. Broke the ball off my radius, the tip of the ulna and mightve cracked the scaphoid, again. I get a follow up tomarrow about surgery and il keep updates coming.
  This is me bummed.

Congratulations Kyle!

As of this last Fluidride race at Mt. Hood, Kyle Henley is on the Life Cycles/ DH coalition team racing Expert 19-29 I do Believe for the 2009 season! Jack and I took his new teammate to Shotgun Creek to break him in and get some slick shots.

After having parting ways with his bike unintentionally, jack opted to shoot some shots and even snagged a few of me
Gotta love the NW

odds n ends

Sorry for the serious lack of updates lately, been moving and spendin more time in the ol place of employment. Not to mention lots of time on the trail bike ridin and not enough filming..
Not to worry, I got my camera stabilizer fixed up yesterday and took it for a trial run, should have some new footy with it soon!

I wish I could pull half that stuff on my 26

Oh yea, the demo day was pretty radical. Not as many bikes as one might think 8 manufacturers would bring but once I learned that a lot of the bikes were the teams personal bikes (like the Evil guys) I was quite alright with it. There were even a couple redbull riders in attendance, semenuk was filming when he wasnt gettin checked out by medics and Stevie was in to do a little shredding.

enjoy the random goodies, especially the Tomtom club. If you dont enjoy them, well, thats just like your opinion, man.

Crawfish update

This place is prime right now! super fast, just enough moisture to keep the dirt from gettin loose. mmm.. Rhys and I did a non stop run, wish I had a run like that for 'the classic'
that reminds me, it must be comin up this summer..

anyways it was definately a day of learning.. bout tire pressure, how a bar/stem fits perfectly where goggles Should be. ( I feel like someone punched me in the fucking  nose), and knowing when its time to call it. I was accosted by a squirrel, two bees and a particular root, nature was obviously trying to tell me something.

Willamette Pass was absolutely Poifect! not much snow, lots of moisture in the turns and trees, lots of new rocks and some super beat up, semi- fresh trail made for premium big bike shreddage. Held a mini demo day with the help of some good friends and rattled the new bike to death! Pretty much blown away by how the 6' bike handeled it. Way more fun on an m6 or v10, I can tell you firsthand!
so this sunday is gonna be a toss up.. either post canyon, Hood River or Big Willy again. We'll see what happens. Either way you should see some new pics soon!
                                                                                                                                  Peace

Ruben and Joe on a train

Due to my new found fondness of traveling with bike by train, and some of the best riding ever captured on film, this was an instant favorite.

U.S. of A.

Just saw that AMERICAN Duncan Riffle from Santa Barbara just won the first round of the IXS european downhill cup, following his 2nd place in winterberg, Germany a week earlier.  Duncan, just like Kyle Straight, Aaron Gwinn, and Cody Warren are raking in great results from all over the world.  With consecutive top 20's and nearly breaking into top 10, this is already the best season for american racing over seas in about 10 years!
highlights include:

  Kyle 11th at Le Bresse.

  Duncan 12th at Peitermaritzberg.

  Cody 17th at Valnord.

Aaron Gwinn 16th at Valnord, 14th in Le Bresse and 17th at Peitermaritzberg! already a regular at world cup top 20's and its his 3rd year racing mountain bikes.

and theres still Fort Bill this weekend, Bromont, Maribor, Champery and Shladaming to go. Worlds is in there somewhere at Canberra.
Go Team America!

Our Trails

Are the best.  I finally got some footy together from the jam.
This place is so much fun, everyone had a great time and only three people went to the hospital! ( no serious injuries). Now a couple bangers for your eyeballs.

Untitled from Tom Lyons Productions on Vimeo.

Im lookin forward to a sweet day at the trails today, filmin with P Dirt.

also, if you havent already.. check out www.thesensus.com and see what Sage, Zink, Kyle and the Lecondeguy's have been up to.  In Kyles case, absolutely killing it at every race he enters this year!

Trail jam/ Patterson Mountain

The jam went off big time on saturday! huge turnout. not all the big names from last year but the trails and style bein thrown down was leaps and bounds above the level last year. Il have some vid and pics up once i get a chance to process it all..
Also, hardesty trail is clear and ridin super fast for only being may still! Eula is almost clear, definately a few trees down but the bottom half is still the bees knees for fast, flowy trail. Was talking to Rhys and realized some sections remind me of other trails but nothing has the speed and flow of Eula, truely in a league of its own!
after two long days of riding im pretty beat up and spent, so i should have some more updates as I recover over the next couple days.

id rather crash and burn than go over the bars this fast into rocks and a snowbank.  Sam is one tough little australian!

Spring Thaw

It was a busy weekend in the world of biking, but i saved the best for last..
The Spring Thaw DH seems to grow in attendance by leaps and bounds every year, and this year was no different. Even though some of the usual suspects were MIA (Team Greene, Tex deisel as well as Shaun and Erika)  there were plenty of racers and spectators. I was half of the media team this year with Rhys helpin out in the still shot department.  Heres some favorites, some highlights and some movin pictures.

Mark Weir won the pro division, setting a new course record at 4:09.46!
Local boy wonder Nathan RIddle pulled in second and Scott Fellers in third.

The LifeCycles/ DH Coalition team was there and Casey Smith scored first second place in cat 1 24-29 with a time of 4:40. Colin McCarthy squezed into 5th with 4:41.

Jack Hill was good for a fourth place finish in Junior Expert, breaking the 5 minute mark with a time of 4:59. Missing the podium by 3 seconds!

Since Rhys is still sporting the cast on his right hand, he helped bag some shots and lent his bike to his 13 year old brother, spencer to race. Spencer looked so strong in the rock garden before gettin huckle bucked on the jump and fracturing his arm. I think i see a new bike in Spencers near future.

Chuck 'Steez' Jacobs was smokin quick all weekend and nabbed himself 5th in Cat 1 30-39.

World Cup DH Round 3

Peaty has done it again, this time breaking Nico's record with 17 world cup wins!!  Steve slayed it and opened up an impressive 100 point lead with his 2 favorite tracks yet to come. Sam Hill had a great run going untill it went disastrously wrong, when asked about it at the bottom he replied he felt lucky to be alive. I agree and  still cant believe how fast this mofo is going.

Trail Jam rescheduled

Saturday, may 23rd will be the first trail jam down at Harvest this year! bring a bike, you'r A game and some brew!

The trails are lookin very niice! high five!
