World Championships 2010

Was today, and our new Champion is... Sam Hill! what a comeback from destroying his shoulder early on in the season. I dont think anyone expected Hill to come back like he did after his perormance last weekend at the world cup final in Whindam, NY. (note it was the FIRST time the season final had been on us soil, ever. In fact it was the first world cup in the US since 2005 in Anglefire, NM.)
Monster Energy made a pretty clean sweep of worlds with Sam winning mens, and Troy Brosnan winning in jr.

Surprise #2, Steve Smith. 2ND! wow. It sounded like he's been tearing this track up this week but has been struggling on keeping it together all the way down the four and a half minute course. Steve was standing 12th in the overall but this will definatley bump him into top ten for the season!

Check Vitalmtb.com for full results. Heres a great video from Santa Cruz at Worlds 2010

Crankworx 2010

Cameron Zink 2010 Crankworx Champion from Taylor Sage on Vimeo.

Cam qualified 1st at Crankworx CO, showing everyone what he is possible of. I dont think anyone really expected him to come out blazing in Canada and win the biggest slope comp of the year tho! Congrats to Cam Zink!! Once again proving injuries are only minor compared to the big accomplishments in life :)

Oh Canada..

why are you so awesome?

Whistler 2010 from Tom Lyons Media on Vimeo.

The whole Eugene/Creswell crew made it up to Whistler for Jay's Bachelore party a couple weekends ago and managed to catch some of the racing action and some runs in with Jack and Rhys. Had my new GoPro Hero HD up there and passed it around for a few days, to document the semi-wet, fantastic weekend shredding. Enjoy!

Addition to the arsenal/ Ashland!

HD camera test from Tom Lyons Media on Vimeo.

Yep, got me a GoPro Hero HD on friday. These cameras are nearly indestructable with the case on (as well as waterproof), not to mention the ridiculously clear and crisp HD footage it captures in a variety of resolutions. Did I mention it takes amazing time lapses? well it does, and I will share one soon.

Get more info at GoPro.com

Not only was there the first UCI world cup DH round today in Maribor, Slovenia, but the Spring Thaw was poppin off in Ashland, Oregon!

I heard great things from Ashland including a few more podiums for the Downhill Coaliton! Way to go everyone, Sounds like everyobody was killing it! Wonder if the new jerseys have anything to do with it...?

check out DirtMagazine for all things World cup recap!

Pro GRT update

Pro GRT #1 from Tom Lyons Media on Vimeo.

Easily one of the best races i've ever been to, and I didn't compete! The camera situation worked out perfectly, with Jeff Chillo steppin in and fronting me a second vx2100 for the weekend! so If you see Chillo, give him a pat on the back.

The Downhill Coalition was weak in attendance, but made up for it with Jack and Rhys steadily making their way up the Jr Ex class with 26th and 23rd places. Not too bad with stacked classes in Jr Ex and Pro! There seemed to abe a lot of folks who took their flyng misfortune as an opprotunity to check out some racing in the Pacific Northwest and nobody seemed disappointed.. Come to think of it, i've heard nothing but great reactions as far as the course and the GRT in general. Im makin my way through some photos from the weekend, Should have some up here soon!

Heres some results:
1 Bryn Atkinson
2 Justin Leov
3 Luke Strobel!

1 Tracey Moseley
2 Rachel Atherton
3 Jill Kintner

Its official

Biking season is in full swing! with Jared graves winning the Sea Otter DH and teammate Aaron Gwinn in second both there and on the other hill during slalom finals, losing only to Sik Mik. Cant say any of this was really a surprise.. The surprise was the volcano in Iceland that convinced a lot of European world cup riders to make the short trip to Port Angeles, Washington this next weekend for the first Pro GRT!
This is probably the closest the NW will get to a World Cup so im extremely excited! Got some new toys for the cameras for the occaision and all.. so until the mega update next week, enjoy this Gem that made me want to ride my bike when I was 13 and still does after 11 years..

Sea Otter

Is this weekend. Too bad I have to work, things like this are definately more the direction things need to keep going at sea otter Less ladder bridges and sustained sprints, more pumpin and flow! Good luck to all racers headin down there, especially Rhys and Jack representin the Downhill Coalition.
Next weekend, Pro GRT at Port Angeles.. Stay tuned.

I really cant wait to ride it in the dry.. long story short, I definately got my shreddin fix this weekend. I felt great all day, did every little thing ive been thinking about over the winter, including keeping up with Ben Kubas for more than 30 seconds! got a few pics, il try n get em up soon.

Oh Oregon..

I missed you. I went to Colorado for the last 5 days, and missed oregon after the first 24 hours. Colorado weather is straight nutty! 65 and sunny, tee-shirt weather the day I got there. Woke up the next morning to 4 inches of powder outside!

Unfortunately this sudden trip was for a family emergancy, but everything worked out just fine. It was a great time seeing family and my big, old dog. Got to even see a rad sunset above the clouds, coming back into Portland.

As far as the lack of updates, this more than makes up for it.
Everyone should see this video..

Blackrock Film Trip

Blackrock was in prime conditions yesterday for a much anticipated filming day, not to mention all the Eugene talent! We shot upper sickter, Grannies, dino's, the two upper road gaps, ET jump and from there out.. Came damn close to filling a whole 60 min tape, which im making my way thru and editing. So expect to see some new trails, fresh shots and lots of trains! haha Tex got his new Corsair out of the Garage to break it in proper.

Scotty was snappin off the stills on my canon, grabbin bangers right and left. Tex nabbed a few as well. Thanks guys!

I was really lookin forward to shooting some trains down grannies doubles, but when we got up there a lot of the jumps looked re-done and pretty soft, but that didnt stop Tex or Sheldon. I got to session the big hip at the bottom with them so I left that trail pretty happy with the shots we got!

Got some shots Ive been thinking about for a long time, and some that i had never thought of before, and a lot of ideas from everyone else.. So the edit is gonna be a good one, incorporating a lot of peoples input and ideas. It was such a good, laid back day, with the best riders any filmer could want. Thanks everybody that was up there and helped make the day go easier! heres some parting shots from filming, like Duck and Tex training the cliff drop. enjoy!

Weekend Cali adventure

Got back from a couple days in California ridin bikes with chuck in the Redwood National Forest down south. Wow. I hadnt been there since I was like 8 and the scenery and the caliber of the trail blew my mind!

We logged about 20 miles total, got to see the area where some awesome movies were shot and stuffed ourselves with barbecue and beer before passing out on Lost Coast to the sound of the waves. If that doesnt sound like Perfection, well, have a nice life somewhere else! haha. Thanks Chuck for makin it happen!

Awesome natural berm shot under a tree at least 150 ft tall. Photo taken by the steez master himself.

Phase 1 complete at Harvest

Work Day from Tom Lyons Media on Vimeo.

Got all the leaves cleaned up and drainages working again. Now im ready to go get started on a couple additions as well as fixing some dingbat's idea of re-doing the small line pumps and first double. I saw them while I was there and told them if they want to build, to take it elsewhere.. like 50 ft away would be plenty.

sick day

I havent been sick for a while but it hit me hard yesterday. This morning I woke up with chills, aches, sweat running across my forehead and no power in the homestead. Weak.
When the power finally came back to life I was able to get through the pics from sunday at windells, so heres a few...

you can see the rest of em on my flickr page. It was such a fun day, just hangin out with all the fellas. Didn't sweat ridin or media matters much this trip, chuck and I just wandered around with my camera and managed to get some good ones here n there.

getting stoked, on TV!

This is a pretty rad show on the Fuel network at 8pm, Sundays. It showcases a pro in some type of alternative, "extreme" sport and I caught this sweet one with Anthony Napolitan shredding some parks in Portland, a mega ramp in Brazil and TJ Lavin's jumps. No double front flips but still, pretty cool and these dudes are gettin hella stoked haha enjoy!

Windells!

Boy today was a blast! Rich and some of the other BRMBA guys rented out windells for the day and pretty much invited anyone from the salem/eugene in the expanding group of friends/ riders. In the end it was $15 to get in and shred with everybody. The indoor was poppin off, with the foam pit seeing some big time attention. I wandered around for most of the day with my camera or Tex's, among others using them as well, so we managed to get quite a few photos. There are definately a few that stand out in my mind already, that I cant wait to start dorkin around with. For example, this was a massive hip Rhys blasted at the end of the day.. Perfect!

More to come soon!
